Review FachPack 2021: Focus on sustainability
It was eagerly awaited, and in many areas, it has arrived: a normality, at least temporarily. In the trade show world, fall was more intense than ever before. FachPack also returned after two years - and we joined the show.
Customer meetings, exchanges with interested parties, and presentations on stage - it was not possible with the intensity we were used to at trade shows for a long time. Now, at the end of September, we finally had the opportunity to present our product range again, this time with a notable focus on our Ecolutions range, and were guests at FachPack in Nuremberg. The focus was on our sustainable product range Ecolutions. Spread over seven halls, a total of 788 exhibitors from 33 countries and 24,000 visitors were at the show for three days. Strict hygiene and safety precautions were taken: only those who followed the 3G rule (vaccinated, recovered, or tested) were allowed to visit the trade show.
Packaging industry in transition
"It was the start of the exhibition season," said a delighted Peter Wallach, Head of Business Segment Processed Meat and Beverages, "FachPack is the trade show of communication for me." "There was a sense of euphoria. Everyone was looking forward to finally seeing each other in person again," said Felix Schüler, Regional Sales Manager DACH Food & HPC, describing the feeling that ran through the halls. The dominant topic was "sustainability." Consumers are increasingly questioning packaging, and our customers need to respond. "The focus was on recyclable packaging and less on innovation as we knew it from the past," Michael Harder, Head of Business Segment Dairy, Technical Film & Foil, describes the offers at the show, "even though more sustainable packaging is considered innovation." At Constantia Flexibles, we recognized this trend years ago and have continuously developed our products. Our answer to the change is our Ecolutions range. This product line meets requirements for greater sustainability and is based on recyclable solutions. At the same time, it aims to have a low environmental impact. Beyond Ecolutions, we presented products based on aluminum, a versatile packaging material.
Mono-material solutions on offer
In addition to the mono-material families of EcoLam (PE), EcoVer (PP), and EcoPaper, EcoPressoLid, EcoAluTainer, and the polypropylene cup ComforLid were also presented in Nuremberg. For the first time, we introduced our comprehensive consumer portfolio, as the segments "Processed Meat and Beverages", "Food and HPC", and "Dairy, Technical Film & Foil" were all on-site.
There was also a keynote by Jörg Adrian, VP Technical Organization & Innovation Pharma, on sustainable packaging in pharma at Forum PACKBOX. "After that, there was a big rush to our booth," recalls Michael Harder. "We showed the pillars on which our sustainable approach is based and that this is of great interest to the Consumer as well as Pharma business," adds Peter Wallach.
