365 days without Lost Time Injury: A shared commitment to safety at Constantia Teko

At Constantia Teko, safety is part of how we work every day. The team recently celebrated an important milestone: 365 days without a Lost Time Injury (LTI).

The achievement was marked with a dedicated event that brought colleagues together in a festive and engaging atmosphere, combining training sessions, team activities, and informal moments of exchange. Under the slogan “Zero LTI – One Team, One Mindset”, the day highlighted both individual responsibility and collective effort behind this result.

This milestone is not the result of a single initiative, but of a continuous journey. Since becoming part of Constantia Flexibles, the plant has systematically strengthened its safety culture through consistent and structured actions. The introduction of the 10 Golden Rules training program laid the foundation, followed by targeted activities such as promoting the proper use of personal protective equipment, safeguarding critical machine areas, and increasing awareness around reporting unsafe conditions and behaviors.

More recently integration into the Aluminum Division has further supported the development of additional safety measures, especially in improving standards for die cutting machine operations. These ongoing efforts reflect a clear focus on maintaining high safety standards across all activities.

Beyond technical improvements, the most important element remains people. The plant continues to focus on strengthening awareness, encouraging ownership, and building a proactive safety mindset across the entire team.

With a clear commitment to a Zero LTI mindset, Constantia Teko will continue to build on this strong foundation, working closely with the Group HSE team to sustain progress and further develop a culture of safety and continuous improvement.

The importance of being LTI-Free

Maintaining an LTI-free record is essential for us. We meticulously scrutinize every detail to prevent even minor incidents that could disrupt our streak. To support this, we adhere to the 10 Golden Rules of Safety, which reinforce the use of safety gear in all activities. These rules encompass practices such as wearing cut-resistant gloves when working with Doctor Blades, using a harness for tasks at heights over 2 meters, and reporting any observed unsafe situations. These examples are part of a comprehensive set of guidelines designed to ensure the safety of our colleagues from the moment they step onto the work premises.
