Constantia Flexibles’ climate targets validated by SBTi: a major step toward Net- Zero
Updated targets set the course
Vienna, October 15, 2025
Constantia Flexibles, the third-largest flexible packaging producer worldwide, has reached an important milestone on its sustainability journey. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) has officially validated the company’s updated near-term and long-term climate targets, confirming that they are aligned with the latest climate science and the ambition to limit global warming to 1.5°C. Building on years of progress across its Consumer and Pharma Divisions and production plants, the company is now committing to even more ambitious reductions in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across its operations and value chain.
The updated targets set a clear course for the future. By 2032, Constantia Flexibles aims to reduce its absolute Scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions by more than half—50.4% compared to the 2024 base year. During the same period, the company will also significantly cut absolute Scope 3 emissions from purchased goods and services, energy-related activities, waste generated in operations, and the processing of sold products by 30%.
Looking further ahead, Constantia Flexibles has set a Net-Zero target to achieve a 90% reduction in both Scope 1 and 2 emissions, as well as Scope 3 emissions, by 2050, from a 2024 baseline—any residual emissions must be neutralized.
These new commitments replace earlier goals and reflect the measurable progress already achieved. In 2024, 79% of the electricity used across its operations came from renewable sources, representing approximately 37% of the total energy mix. Based on previous base year 2015, Constantia Flexibles reduced emissions by 15% from its own production and by more than 60% from purchased electricity.
Validation by SBTi is more than a recognition—it is a responsibility
“Validation by SBTi is more than a recognition—it is a responsibility,” said Marc Rademacher, EVP Consumer Commercial and Group R&D and Sustainability at Constantia Flexibles. “We know that achieving Net-Zero will require continued effort, innovation, and collaboration across the entire value chain. Our updated targets reflect both our progress and our determination to lead by example in the packaging industry.”
To reach these ambitious goals, Constantia Flexibles is developing a comprehensive climate roadmap. This plan will include detailed analysis of reduction measures at production sites and a stronger focus on engaging suppliers and customers to cut emissions associated with raw materials such as aluminum, films, and chemicals. The company sees this as a shared journey—one that requires collective action.
